It all started with a mission trip to southern Missouri in the summer of 2011. The group from Bonner Springs worked with an organization that delivered meals to the homeless. When the group returned home they wanted to carry the vision back to the Bonner Springs and Edwardsville communities. Feed His Lambs was born with the help of community members who shared their vision, time, talents and giving hearts. We were launched with an anonymous $2,000 donation, and a freezer donation from a community member.
Every Thursday evening volunteers meet to do the food prep. On Friday mornings more volunteers prepare the meals. They cook from scratch using donated food and items purchased with donations.
On Friday evenings families in need either come to the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church to pick up a delicious meal, or volunteers deliver the meals to their homes in Bonner Springs and Edwardsville. The meals consist of a large main entree, bread, salad and vegetables. Families are given enough food for a good meal with leftovers for the weekend. Currently more than 260 area residents are fed each week.
Our ultimate goal … no more hunger.
